· Support Coordinator - for you it could be Support Coordinator, Life Coach or LAC.
· your Fund Manager and
· you or someone you nominate.
That Team is charged with the following
· Ensuring you can achieve the best outcome within your Plan limits
· Ensuring you don’t pay for services
o you didn’t receive
o were not satisfactory
o were not charged in line with NDIS Pricing limits
· Advocating for you when you need it
· Supporting you in your preparation for NDIS reviews including being there
The NDIS holds your Support Coordinator/Recovery coach responsible for ensuring you are properly supported and get the most out of your Plan.
We take it one step further by expecting your Plan Support Team to ensure they are held to the highest standard AND properly supported to do their job.
IT MUST BE A TEAM EFFORT.
DON'T BE FOOLED
Any Service Provider that takes the majority of your funding and provides Support Coordination and Plan ManAgement as well, is unlikely to act in your best interests in the long term. It is called a 'conflict of interest'.
We all need a support network around us. It used to be our family, but so often nowadays, our family is not there for us. It might be as simple as they are no longer close by, but for too many people, that family that was meant to support and protect us from abuse, is the very place that abuse and neglect is coming from. Worse still, governmental intervention, that aims to take over where the family breaks down, often perpetuates the abuse or makes it even worse.
For the most vulnerable in our community, it is even easier to find this problem. Even though most Service Providers claim to provide the care and support needed, there are many times this doesn't occur and even worse, there are too many times when speaking up results in even worse treatment, whether intentional or not.
The Plan Support Team, working with the wider network*, will be constantly asking the questions "Is everything OK?"and "Could things be better?" It is not enough that your basic needs are met but that you are happy with your life.
If something is not right, they are the ones who will not take no for an answer until you whole life is working well. It won't be you saying things aren't right, it will be the support team saying it and finding the next step forward
